    Update on 2 hours ago!

Great news - all is not as bleak as it was. I have now successfully recovered from v4.7 back to a working v4.6.1. For some unknown reason, Windows and/or Cura needed "some quiet time" (about 2 to 3 hours) before suddenly allowing me to select the Artillery Genius printer from the printers list (where it had been absent before), and now totally unexpectedly, is allowing me to import the 3DN config files again.

As of now, the only thing I've 'lost' is the material profiles I created, but it's not a major problem to re-create those. My immediate concern was that I had no record of all my Favorite tuned printer settings. Yes, I take monthly image backups of my hard drives but it's not a trivial thought to trash a working computer unless you absolutely have to.
Cura does have a backup process but a) it seems to come with a long list of privacy requirements and b) I came across evidence this morning that some users were reporting that their backups were of no use in their problems with updating to v4.7. How do you backup your Cura settings - is there a good way?

This experience has led to some caution over updating Cura in the future. Maybe I'd be better off with a different Slicer. What are the opinions of the Forum on this? There must be some Artillery owners here that have dabbled with a number of different Slicers and formed a view?

You just waited a few hours and than it worked again in 4.6.1?
I’ve also looked on simplify3D slicer... Any thoughts on that? Better since it’s a payed slicer?

  • Took the bait yesterday and upgraded to v4.7. Strongly wished I hadn't!
    1) It apparently threw away all my printer and material config files (despite explicitly taking the option NOT to delete my config files) and took me threw the installation as a fresh user.
    2) It would not import the 3DN config files, throwing up and error ".... Could not find a quality type adaptive for the current configuration."
    3) Reverting back to v 4.6.1 was possible but the installation seems to be impacted by the v4.7 experience as I can no longer import the 3DN config files for the Artillery printers

For anyone that doesn't know this, Cura has no interest in providing support to users with an Artillery printer (I know, I've tried).

My system runs Windows 10 at latest update standard. Reverting to a 9 days old Restore failed to recover the situation - there must be v4.7 files on my computer and not affected by the restore.....

    Be aware!

    Hi Earl,
Hope your health is a little better now?

I wanted to ask about a GCODE PAUSE command for the GENIUS, and in particular how to do this. I've played with some of the possibilities but haven't been able to get it to work. For example, I'd like to be able to do a filament change, plus I'm embedding magnets in some designs and just need the print to stop for 30 seconds while I place a magnet in it's pouch and before it gets covered with a 'hat' of filament. It's been quite hilarious trying to get this to work 'on the fly' as the magnets are quite powerful and tend to fly into the guts of the Extruder. But this is only because I'm rushing and trying to dodge the X-Y mechanism.....

I eventually emailed Artillery and they came back with two things
    1) What I needed was an M600 command, but this does not work in the factory GENIUS firmware. They claim to be working on a fix, but I don't know how likely this is or what sort of timescale.
    2) They didn't recommend that I updated the firmware as it is currently Marlin v1.1.9 plus 'tuning tweaks' by their engineers.

I also asked for a list of the GCODES that work on this machine, but their answer wasn't very helpful - "it all works except M600"

    Any ideas?

    best regards

    • Hi Earl,
Very much appreciated you taking the time to reply - thanks.
I get that you are using S3D rather than me using Cura, but for me the questionHi Earl,
Very much appreciated you taking the time to reply - thanks.
I get that you are using S3D rather than me using Cura, but for me the question really goes to the Gcode mapping capability of the Genius - it's either got the capability to pause in Gcode or it doesn't. If you can achieve say a filament change using S3D, then I guess that it can. I'm curious on which codes S3D is sending to achieve the pause.

I've tried M600 (doesn't work at all), M25 and M0 with and without 'S' modifiers (both pause for about 7 seconds regardless). I also tried M118 - but that was a guess. So far, the only reliable thing is to hit PAUSE from the touchscreen, but that's a bit hit and miss as to where the Extruder will be at any one point.

I look forward to future announcements with interest

      best regards

Im re-clipping a featured video we did on one of the live shows, it walks you through the process. I dont mind others trying to jump through hoops to do the same thing, more power to them. Just for me, already had that covered so the work going on out there doesnt do anything for me. You have to think about the slicing process just a wee different but the setup from one model to the next takes seconds, no hardware hacks, no firmware hacks. Ill post a link here as soon as Im done reclipping the video.   More ...
